About Nicolai
Nicolai Deutsch is a German filmmaker, diver and adventurer whose fascination with the underwater world began when he was seven years old. The camera came later — first for fun, then as the foundation of a professional career.
After studying film, Nicolai brought underwater cinematography and storytelling together. He has now been working in the industry for more than ten years and continues to develop his skills, both creatively and technically.
His work spans small crews and larger productions, documentaries and commercial projects. He is comfortable working both above and below the surface and is used to adapting to very different production environments.
Nicolai also works with advanced diving techniques, including rebreathers and mixed gas, allowing him to operate in demanding underwater environments where experience, planning and technical discipline are essential.
He works across several roles in production, including cameraman / director of photography, editor, production and drone pilot. That versatility makes him able to follow a project from the first idea through filming and post-production.
For Nicolai, the attraction lies in the variety: new locations, new technical challenges and new stories to tell. He approaches each project with the same goal — to translate a strong idea into compelling images, whether the camera is above or below water.
