Time to actually learn underwater photography

The biggest problem with learning underwater photography is often simple: there is never enough time to practise. At Nakari, that changes.

You can dive when you are ready, test new techniques, work with your camera settings and come back for feedback. Before the trip, we clarify your goals so the coaching can be adapted to your level and equipment.

What you can work on

  • Flash and lighting technique
  • Wide-angle and macro photography
  • Camera setup, trim and handling
  • Composition and creative assignments
  • Image review and Adobe Lightroom workflow
  • Your own personal photography project
Why join

A practical learning experience

Before the Trip

Before departure, you and Lars make a plan specifically for you — based on your experience, equipment and what you want to improve during the week.

Personal Coaching

Throughout the week, Lars follows your progress and helps you adjust technique, settings and goals as you develop.

Learn at Your Own Pace

No rigid underwater schedule. You have time to repeat, adjust and try again.

Photo Review Sessions

In the evenings, we sit down together for image reviews and concrete feedback that you can test on the next dives.

Work with Photo Friends

During the week, you’ll make new photo friends, exchange ideas and spar with each other about images, techniques and creative solutions.

Editing & Workflow

Get an introduction to image handling and editing in Adobe Lightroom.

Novice or Pro — We All Have to Learn

Whether you are just getting started or already experienced, there is always something to improve. Here, you get the time, support and right conditions to learn at your own level.

Daily Photo Tasks

Every day Lars will hand out a new photography task for the day — giving you something specific to practise, explore and discuss afterwards.

Your Own Project

Maybe you simply need some quality time to practise on your own? Use the week to concentrate on your own project, with Lars available as a sparring partner when you need him.

Lars Kirkegaard

Lars has been photographing underwater for more than 30 years and began teaching photography at the age of 19. He is educated as a studio photographer and later completed a BSc in graphic arts management.

Camp Nakari

Diving & accommodation

Camp Nakari is particularly well suited to underwater photography: easy access to the house reef, a relaxed camp environment and accommodation close to the diving.

Getting there

Transport to Nakari

Option 1 · Arrange Your Own Travel

The basic workshop price includes the workshop, accommodation and diving. You arrange your own flight, and we coordinate the airport transfer with the camp for you. Once your flight details are confirmed, the camp arranges your pickup, so getting from the airport to Nakari is simple and straightforward.

Marsa Alam → Nakari: approx. 1 hour
Hurghada → Nakari: approx. 4 hours

Transfers are operated in the camp’s own spacious, comfortable minibuses with air conditioning. The driver will be waiting outside the airport when you arrive, and on the longer transfer from Hurghada there will be stops along the way. In practice, it is a very easy and safe way to get all the way from the airport directly to the camp.

Option 2 · Travel with Lars from Copenhagen

You can also join the group from Copenhagen. The group package includes return flights, transfers in Egypt and Travel Guarantee Fund coverage. In Egypt, the camp’s own spacious, comfortable air-conditioned minibuses will be waiting outside the airport to take us directly to Nakari. On the longer transfer there will be stops along the way, making the journey simple and comfortable from the moment we land.

Current planned airline: Air Cairo. Exact flight times are still to be confirmed and routes may change.
